3. How to use game creation as a classroom tool;

4/5. children’s books.

What inspired you to write your book?

I recognized a need. I was getting a lot of questions asking many of the same things.

If you have a business related to your book, tell us about it:

We typically work with indie authors and small publishers who have content they really want to get out there to reach a wider audience. Through audiobook production and marketing we help authors reach a wider audience and have a greater impact. We do all kinds of projects, but especially enjoy working on projects where we’re helping nonfiction authors leverage their audiobook to achieve larger goals – e.g., driving traffic from the audiobook to the author website, as well as complex projects involving music and/or sound effects or multiple voices. Often enough those two segments overlap, such as when a nonfiction book has exercises or meditations or client stories. Our Audiobook Marketing Program leverages the audio to build marketing assets and includes a comprehensive approach to build the entire author platform.

What is a typical day like for you?

Most days I’m doing calls with authors who are seeking an audiobook producer. At this point I have a full team handling most of the production work, though I do still narrate some selected titles. My time is spent more on developing pre-production plans for incoming clients and coordinating the marketing for completed projects. I’m also busy developing our podcast, Audiobook Connection – Behind the Scenes with the Creative Teams, as well as blog and video content. I’m President of Bay Area Independent Publishers Assn., so that takes some time as well.

What do you most enjoy about what you do?

I love helping great stories come alive – the creativity of creating the best listening experience and I love working with authors. We’re collaboratively changing the world one book at a time.

What are some favorite books you’d recommend to our readers?

Money Magic (Masters), The Monroe Family series (Wetton); Far Away Bird (Burton); Lies That Bind (Smith); Inspiring Accountability (Noell); Cosmic Cowboy the Musical (West) – so many great books! All depends on what genre you’re looking for.

What advice do you have to offer our readers?

Believe in yourself and just keep going, one step forward at a time. It’s the only way to make progress. And if you’re considering audio but aren’t sure if that’s a good move, then reach out to us and learn about ways to leverage the audiobook. There’s SO much that most authors – especially nonfiction authors – miss.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I’ve done quite a bit of work in theatre Off Broadway and in the SF Bay Area, working in almost every aspect of theatre: acting, directing, producing, scenic, props, lights, sound, costumes, founder, dramaturg. I love helping great stories come alive in theatre as well, especially new work and plays in development.

What’s next for you?Becky Parker Geist

Pro Audio Voices is growing quickly, so it keeps me very busy. When I do get some time I chip away at my first novel, just starting draft 2.
