What is your book about?

My latest book published under my own name is “Investment Trivia: The Fun Side of Money, Stocks, Bonds, and Wall Street” and provides interesting, amusing, and fascinating trivia about investments, money, stocks, bonds, and Wall Street, such as the Skirt Length Index, the first marijuana stock, the first stock brokerage firm founded by women in 1870, celebrity stockbrokers including Jules Verne, and much more.

What inspired you to write your book?

There are over 60,000 books on Amazon about how to make money in the stock market and investing. I figured that investors are tired of those books and are looking for something fun, unusual, and different, and would make a great gift. I used to work in the financial services industry, and over the years, I would collect articles about unusual anecdotes relating to the stock market, such as the stock run by the FBI that had a box of clothes as its only asset. I realized that there was a demand for an investment trivia book, and this is the third one I have written of this type, the previous ones being “Stock Market Trivia” and “Real Estate Trivia.”

If you have a business related to your book, tell us about it:

My business now is giving speeches about investments and writing books and articles. After hearing my speeches, many attendees are interested in buying and reading my books, so I always bring a good supply with me.

What is a typical day like for you?

I watch the stock market until 1 pm, then I exercise, I walk the dog, I write, I catch up on my email, I take a nap, and I read.

What do you most enjoy about what you do?

I do whatever I want whenever I want. If I don’t feel like writing, I won’t write.

What are some favorite books you’d recommend to our readers?

My favorite book about publishing a non-fiction book is “The Nonfiction Publishing Book” by Stephanie Chandler. My favorite book about editing is “From the Errors of Others: How to Avoid Embarrassing Mistakes in Writing and Speaking” by Rebecca M. Lyles.

What advice do you have to offer our readers?

It may be heresy to say this to members of the NFAA but I also write fiction in addition to non-fiction, with my latest fiction book being “Beach Detective: Exploding Surfboard.” So what I do is I generally write a non-fiction book and a fiction book concurrently. Then if I get tired of writing one book, I switch to the other, and it gives me a nice break. If I get really desperate, I publish a no-content book, then I feel that I have at least accomplished something and it gives me the motivation to keep writing. I have already published over 20 no-content books such as “Actor’s Journal: Notebook Diary for Actors and Actresses,” under a pseudonym of course.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

Many years ago, I produced a documentary about the haunted locations in the San Francisco Bay Area, such as the Queen Anne Hotel in San Francisco and the U.S.S. Hornet Aircraft Carrier in Alameda.

What’s next for you?

Two more books, one fiction, one non-fiction.
