What is your book about?

It is a transcription of journals kept by my father-in-law when he was a young naval officer. It is an almost daily account of both naval and personal life

What inspired you to write your book?

I was inspired to write this book when we discovered the four journals in a trunk after my in-laws died. I started to read them and then realized that here was a unique first-hand account of naval life and it should be shared with a wider audience than my family.

If you have a business related to your book, tell us about it:

I have written another book as well and do heritage and genealogy consulting.

What is a typical day like for you?

Right now, I get up and get going on my day. I usually write for about three or four hours a day. Since my husband died in February, I have been spending more time cleaning up the house but have discovered some more naval history items so it is all good.

What do you most enjoy about what you do?

I love writing and getting the message out about any topic. At this point in my life, I can research and write articles on just about anything.

What are some favorite books you’d recommend to our readers?

Anything by Louise Penny, Death March Escape, The Lantern Men, Horses Don’t Fly: The Memoir of the Cowboy Who Beacme a World War I Ace.

What advice do you have to offer our readers?

Go for your dreams. If you work hard you will get there. Also, don’t let you age get in the way; we old dogs can learn new tricks..

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I am an expert on ice hockey history.

What’s next for you?

I am working on assembling a collection of articles I have written on old houses in Victoria, BC that have been published in local newsletters.
