What is your book about?
“Savoring the Camino de Santiago” is both a memoir and a practical guide for those thinking about journeying on the Camino. The book covers my 2016 pilgrimage along the French route of the Camino and my subsequent visit to Madrid and Toledo, as well as my later thoughts about the journey. It includes photos, illustrations, and an index.
What inspired you to write your book?
After I walked the Camino, I found that I had a lot of thoughts I wanted to share with others about the experience.
If you have a business related to your book, tell us about it:
I founded Bayou City Press in 2019 as a vehicle to publish my own books. I hope to help other authors publish too.
What is a typical day like for you?
Get up. Housework. Errands. Go the office. Spend the rest of the day at Bayou City Press writing and trying to build my business. Back home late. Watch the evening news while eating. My cats keep me company while I watch the news. Bed. Read a bit before turning off the light. Pretty boring, huh? I used to travel a lot, before COVID.
What do you most enjoy about what you do?
I love reading most of all, but I also like sharing via writing.
What are some favorite books you’d recommend to our readers?
I like the classics–“To Kill a Mockingbird,” “Pride and Prejudice,” “Gone with the Wind.” Among memoirs, I really like Cheryl Strayed’s “Wild.” I love books set overseas such as “Toujours Provence.” I read a lot of mysteries nowadays, and I really love the Navada Barr and Lindsey Davis series.
What advice do you have to offer our readers?
It’s never too late! I launched into my current writing and publishing career only after retiring following 33 years in another profession.
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I come from a rural background and was very active in 4-H, showing a variety of livestock (Angus cattle, Hampshire and Southdown sheep, Quarter Horses).
What’s next for you?
I hope to write a second book about the Camino de Santiago, once I can get back to Spain.
