What is your book about?

My book provides strategies and tactics to help people maximize their health insurance (primarily employer-based plans). The book can help you learn how to be health-insurance literate. We’re expected to be good consumer of our health insurance, but what does that mean? Insurance can be complicated. The book helps to demystify the insurance landscape and enable people to make smart decisions and save money with their health insurance. Maximize!

What inspired you to write your book?

First, I wanted to practice writing a non-fiction book. All the “How To’s” out there said to write what you know. I have extensive experience in this field. Second, health insurance is not taught in schools. We often learn “on the job” or when something goes wrong. I believe that while we don’t need to become insurance experts, there are number of simple, practical things we can all do to be good consumers of our health insurance.

What is a typical day like for you?

I work full time. My typical day is managing benefits for a large organization. I try to schedule time on the weekends to research, post comments on my blog. I also like to garden, kayak and spend time with my family. These have been my priorities.

What do you most enjoy about what you do?

With work, I get satisfaction when my efforts can benefit someone’s life.

What are some favorite books you’d recommend to our readers?

I recently read non-fiction The Water Will Come by Jeff Gooddell (illustrates potential impact of rising sea levels on communities around the globe). I also enjoyed The Dark Vineyard by Martin Walker. I found this book in a little bookshop in New Hampshire, kept me engaged to the end. GMOs, French wine vineyards, murder, love and a good distraction.

What advice do you have to offer our readers?

Prioritize. Decide what you want to accomplish and boil down your efforts to what will make most impact/value to accomplish your goals. And keep a healthy balance in your life.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

Probably everything as they don’t know me 🙂 All kidding aside, I’ve learned how to forgive people and myself.

What’s next for you?

With COVID-19, figuring out how best to survive. With regards to my book, I want to get better at using social media to promote my book, my brand.
