Nonfiction Book Award Status: Gold
Author Name: Elly Taylor
Synopsis
Babies bring ‘becomings’: women becoming mothers, men becoming fathers, couples becoming families. Traditionally these transformations were honored as a rite of passage, yet guidelines to support today’s parents have largely been lost – until now.
Becoming Us weaves current research with age-old wisdom and the stories of hundreds of parents to usher a new generation of couples through the eight steps of parenthood, from pregnancy through baby’s first five years.
Whether you’re welcoming your first baby or your last, Becoming Us helps you grow from confident, connected partners into confident, connected parents, so together you can love, learn and grow a family that thrives.
Author Bio:
Elly Taylor is becoming known worldwide as the Parenthood Pioneer. As a Relationship Counsellor and a new mother at the same time, Elly discovered a big gap in pregnancy preparation and after-baby support for the normal, but challenging, life changes that come with becoming a family.
She was on a mission. Over 15 years, combining Psychology theory, her clinical work, decades of research and some hard-earned personal wisdom, Elly created an eight stage evidence-based model of the transition into parenthood to prepare, guide and support mothers, fathers, partners and families. The result is her book Becoming Us, 8 Steps to Grow a Family that Thrives, which has been endorsed by CAPPA, the world’s leading childbirth and postpartum professional organization.
Elly is has since presented at international conferences, been a columnist for Practical Parenting Magazine, Resident Counsellor for Fairfax’s Daily Life website and served on advisory panels for Monash University, Newcastle University, the Australian Catholic University and Marce Australasia.
Elly lives in a Sydney beach house with her firefighter husband, their three children and a bunch of pets.
Thank you so much for this honour, Stephanie and team, I am so grateful! My hope is this award brings attention to the needs of expecting and new parents to be properly prepared for parenthood – and all that this massive transition means for them.
